What's wrong with BIM?

👴The base goal when I started working in construction was “everyone on the same hymn sheet”, “one source of the truth” and a single tracker that’s actually up to date! 18 years later it is still the same goal.

✏ BIM managers and CAD teams accelerated into the future with 4D modelling, AR/VR headsets, BIM conferences, podcasts, articles and white papers. Delivery teams were focused on delivering works with basic tools like Excel, WhatsApp and sketches on the back of A3 drawings.

📃 By the time the BIM strategy was completed on one of my projects we had finished 60% of the work! At that point BIM was a tick box exercise rather than something that truly added value to the project teams.

🏄‍♀️ We need to simplify, reduce complexity, and bring delivery teams on this journey together. Bring BIM into the delivery team integrated with information management, quality control and engineering assurance.

🏗 BIM typically is used at the design stage and for handover, but it can be much more than that in delivery – empowering teams to make informed decisions on risks & opportunities.

😎 Capture what you want, find what you need and make better informed decisions – this was one of the founding principles of SymTerra, we believe in open BIM standard and playing nicely with other systems to help empower project teams work more efficiently.

What do you think - Can we bring delivery teams on the BIM journey?
