How ScotFast swapped WhatsApp groups and notebooks for a record that’s still there years later.
The challenge
ScotFast’s crews put up everything from deer fencing to security fencing across the country, and before SymTerra they ran on WhatsApp messages, notebooks and a lot of paper. A job might resurface years after it finished, and finding anything meant scrolling back through old chat threads, or phoning a fencer and trying to jog their memory. As Amanda McKenzie puts it: “If someone goes, what did you do in 2023? I’m like scrolling away. Horrific.”
The solution
Now, planning happens on SymTerra before a crew ever sets foot on site, and everything from health and safety to progress photos and locations stays attached to the job for good. The team took to it fast, not being paperwork people themselves: “I explained it to them, it’s like a social media, it’s like a memory,” says Amanda.
